What is The Alberta Room?

The Alberta Room Is a private showcase room for Alberta folk/roots performers that takes place during the Folk Alliance International Conference held every year in February.

What is the Folk Alliance International Conference?

The annual conference is an event that draws together music industry professionals from throughout the world to share ideas, network, and showcase emerging, mid-career, and legendary artists. Held over five days, the conference includes a keynote speaker, awards shows, over 2,400 registered attendees from 18 countries, 75 exhibitors, 150 panels & workshops, 200 juried official showcases, and over 2,800 private showcases held late at night.

How does The Alberta Room Work?

Each year beginning with the conference in Memphis in 2012, The Alberta Room sponsors have subsidized15 to 20 different Alberta folk/root performers to attend the Folk Alliance International conference. For the past three years the effort has been managed by a small group of volunteers from the Bow Valley Music Club and the Calgary Folk Club with additional support from a number of other groups and individuals. Invitations are sent to a number of performers determined by the management committee who then partially fund registrations, provide a showcase performance room and a hospitality room, secure equipment and provide advertising and promotion at and for the conference. Money to support all this is gathered through fund-raising concerts and donations directly from the sponsors.
